Introduction
Microbiology is a field of science that deals with bacteria, viruses, algae, fungi, and protozoa found in our environment. It provides knowledge of the cellular and metabolic pathways of microbes. It gives an understanding of how microorganisms develop infectious diseases. In the current scenario, various epidemic and pandemic cases highlighted the importance of Microbiology as a field of choice to develop their career. It also deals with genetic manipulation of beneficial microorganisms to produce metabolites used in various industries and health sector. The dynamic behaviour of microorganisms helps to understand and solve medical and environmental problems. Recent advances in Microbiology like Genomics, Proteomics, Metabolomics, Synthetic Biology, and Nanobiotechnology have made it more demanding.
The department of Microbiology, Jinnah University for Women was established in 1985 to impart quality education for females at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The department has full-time dedicated and trained faculty in their respective fields, who provide the best of their knowledge to the students. Department of Microbiology has well-equipped labs with state-of-the-art facilities for research and development to assist students and cater to their research needs.
Presently, the department offers BS (Four years) program with specializations in Clinical Microbiology, Food Microbiology, and Molecular Biology. Besides, the department also offers degrees in MS and Ph.D. programs. The department provides an excellent opportunity for students to learn and gain hands-on experience. The department provides an excellent environment for collaboration with investigators nationally and internationally.
Our graduated students can work in pathological laboratories, pharmaceutical industries, food and dairy processing industries, marine fisheries, water industries, biotechnological industries, agriculture sector, scientific laboratory technicians, clinical research associates, research organizations, and in academia of public and private sectors.
Vision
Women empowerment through quality education and skill development in Microbiology.
Mission
To develop the academic processes, to augment scientific research through tactical strategy and a distinct vision for science & technology at the national level, to train young scholars, and to introduce a methodology developed to encounter the diverse needs of the nation and to serve well the several research and developmental projects in the community.

MICROBIOLOGY SOCIETY JUW
The Department has founded a microbiology society JUW that is fully managed by the students, where they are actively involved in organizing seminars, awareness lectures, workshops conducted by personals related to the field of medical microbiology and public health, applied microbiology, Computational biology etcAmong its various achievements it collaborates with American Society for Microbiology (ASM). The department has ASM liaison office which is well equipped with computer and digital library facility. The Department has seminar library.
We know our members have a unique depth and breadth of knowledge about microbiology. The Society's role is to help unlock and harness the potential of that knowledge to help you build and strengthen your networks and expertise, no matter what stage of your career. Our principle goal is to develop, expand and strengthen the networks available to our members so that they can generate new knowledge about microbes and ensure that it is shared with other communities. Join us to help us achieve our mission of advancing the understanding and impact of microbiology by connecting and empowering communities worldwide.
Why join the Microbiology Society
- We offer many benefits and opportunities for anyone interested in microbiology, whatever your career stage. We’re invested in supporting our members, helping them to connect to our active community, and there are many opportunities to get involved and shape our work.
- In addition to being eligible to apply for our grants and additional funding through our membership of the American Society of Microbiology, members also receive a discount on Society meetings and events, which host to bring together communities around their research and interests. Our Members Directory allows you to connect with other members and build your presence within the microbiology research landscape. We have a thriving early career researcher community with many chances for those setting out in their careers to gain vital skills and experience. We offer the opportunity for members at any career stage to shadow our Council and Committees to find out how we work and understand what it takes to lead an organization.
